Dehradun, 15 Apr: Vice-Chancellor, Patanjali University, Prof. Mayank Kumar Agrawal, presented the progress of an ongoing research project under the ‘One University – One Research’ initiative before the Governor, Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), at the Raj Bhavan, here, today.
The university is conducting research on the theme “Preventive Health Strategy in Uttarakhand through Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy”.
During the presentation, Prof Agrawal highlighted that Ayurveda, Yoga, and traditional medicine systems are an integral part of Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage. The university aims to provide a scientific foundation for these systems to benefit public health. He further shared that the research indicates how Yoga and Ayurveda have proven effective in managing stress, depression, physical pain, and mental health issues.
The Governor emphasised that Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy are invaluable treasures of India. He stressed the need not only to preserve them but also to validate them scientifically and incorporate them into modern lifestyles. He remarked that if states like Uttarakhand take proactive steps in this direction, it could not only improve public health but also position the state as an international hub for AYUSH-based living.
The Governor noted that the entire world is increasingly turning towards traditional medical systems alongside modern medicine. In such times, India—and particularly states like Uttarakhand, where culture and nature promote a healthy lifestyle—can offer a new direction to the world. He stated that the final findings of this research will be shared with the Government of Uttarakhand and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
Present on the occasion were Secretary Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadauria, Prof Ritwik Bisaria, Dr Kanak Saini, and Dr Girish from the university.
