Dehradun, 8 May: District Magistrate Savin Bansal has intensified his review of health services in Dehradun, stressing the need for significant improvements in hospital operations. Expressing dissatisfaction over the low number of surgeries and institutional patients in District Hospital Coronation, Sub District Hospital, Rishikesh, and the Sub District Hospitals of Vikasnagar and Premnagar, he directed authorities to enhance services within 15 days.
The DM asserted that surgeries should not be dependent on personal discretion of the doctors when funds, doctors, and medical equipment are already available. He emphasised that public resources sustain healthcare services, and all officials must uphold their responsibilities with full dedication. On reviewing the performance of specialist doctors, he found discrepancies between hospital facilities and reported figures, ordering corrective measures and instructing hospitals to double their surgery count by 15th May.
It was shared that Premnagar hospital has recorded 723 operations, with 205 categorised as major surgeries, while Vikasnagar hospital has conducted 426 operations, including 219 major surgeries. Dissatisfied with the low numbers, Bansal directed officials to significantly increase the figures. He further emphasised that responsibilities cannot be evaded by merely citing fewer surgeries or a low patient influx.
The DM has sought comprehensive reports from hospitals regarding admitted patients, deliveries, caesarean procedures, operations, and referrals, including reasons for the referrals. He directed the hospital administration to ensure greater transparency and efficiency in addressing healthcare concerns across the district.
