Haridwar, 8 May: Taking action against unauthorised madrasas, the Haridwar administration sealed 13 madrasas in the district yesterday. These include seven madrasas in Pathri under Tehsil Haridwar and five in Roorkee Pargana, all of which were operating without valid permission or registration. During the operation in Pathri, heavy police deployment was made to maintain law and order as the sealing created a stir in the area. SDM Haridwar Jitendra Kumar stated that the action was taken on the instructions of the district administration following an investigation that confirmed the madrasas were running without authorisation or recognition.

The sealed madrasas include Madrasa Eesa Atul Quran in Village Ambuwala Pathri, Madrasa Jamia Farukia in Village Badshapur, Madrasa Islamia Arabia Isaatul Purana in Padartha Dhanpura, Madrasa Islamia Tameel Quran in Village Ibrahimpur, Madrasa Saklania in Village Gurjar Basti Pathri, Madrasa Faiz-e-Aam in Gurjar Basti Pathri and Madrasa Gosia Rahmania Taleemul Quran in Dhanpura. Jitendra Kumar stated that prior notices were issued before the sealing, and action was taken due to the lack of response. Pathri police station in-charge Manoj Nautiyal and officials from several departments were present during the operation, with police forces stationed outside for security and to prevent any unrest.

DM Haridwar. Karmendra Singh has conceded that five illegal madrasas were also sealed in Roorkee Pargana. So far, under the directive of the Dhami government, 213 illegal madrasas have been sealed in Uttarakhand, including 79 in Haridwar district. The government has also demolished and taken possession of two madrasas that had been built by encroaching upon government land.

At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reiterated the government’s stance, stating that madrasas running without permission are illegal and are being sealed. No action has been taken against the Madrasas recognised by the Madrasa Board. However, they will also be investigated to ensure compliance with standards. The origins of students enrolled in them will also be verified.
