Dehradun, 22 May: Dehradun Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal today conducted a comprehensive field inspection to assess the city’s sanitation, cleanliness and drainage system.
Bansal began her inspection at the old garbage transfer station in Kargi, where 10,000 metric tonnes of accumulated garbage have already been removed. She directed the garbage disposal agency, M/s Sunlight Waste Management Company to urgently clear the remaining 500 to 600 metric tonnes. Additionally, she also asked the company to construct a boundary wall and enhance the area’s aesthetics.
Moving forward, she inspected the newly built mechanised garbage transfer station, where garbage is being deposited in capsules by door-to-door collection vehicles. The supervisors were directed to ensure maximum use of compactors and streamline the transfer station system by 30 May. The officer in charge of the plant was also instructed to maintain cleanliness and efficiency at the site.
Further, Bansal reviewed several Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across the city, including in locations such as Palm City, Patel Nagar, Bhandari Bagh, Kanwali Road, and Chakrata Road. She emphasised timely waste removal and urged authorities to improve beautification efforts in these areas.
The inspection concluded with a review of ongoing cleaning operations in rivers and drains. Starting from Bhandari Bagh, she then examined drains near Indresh Hospital, Govindgarh, and the ONGC area. The sanitation teams were instructed to expedite the cleaning process and ensure completion before the upcoming monsoon season.
Accompanying Bansal during the inspection were Chief Municipal Health Officer Dr Avinash Khanna, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, and Chief Sanitation Inspector, among other officials.
