DEHRADUN, 26 Jul: In a felicitation ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Saturday, the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), honoured the courageous mountaineers from the Indian Army and NCC cadets who successfully scaled Mount Everest during the 2025 expedition. Congratulating the participants on their remarkable feat, the Governor said this achievement is a matter of immense pride for the entire nation and especially for the state of Uttarakhand.
During the event, the Governor also felicitated NCC Senior Under Officer Vinayak Thakur, who represented India at the United Nations under the Youth Exchange Programme and was awarded the Overall Best Cadet Medal.
It is noteworthy that out of the 22 mountaineers in the first Indian Army expedition this year, ten were from Uttarakhand, showcasing the state’s glorious tradition in mountaineering. Additionally, in the NCC’s separate Everest expedition, three cadets from Uttarakhand were part of the 10-member team that summited Mount Everest, proudly hoisting the national flag on the world’s highest peak.
Praising this historic accomplishment, the Governor remarked that the expedition was not merely a journey to the highest point but also a testament to mental resilience, strategic planning, and rigorous training. He lauded the Indian Army for its excellence across all domains — be it war, disaster relief, or challenging adventures like mountaineering — and commended the soldiers’ determination in overcoming extreme conditions to conquer Everest.
Acknowledging the contribution of NCC cadetsthe Governor said: “The NCC cadets have achieved a milestone at a very young age. Their determination proves that with courage, passion, and hard work, even the most challenging goals can be achieved. Their success will inspire future generations.”
