Dehradun, 13 Aug: In a vibrant celebration of Uttarakhand’s cultural richness and Doordarshan’s enduring legacy, Doordarshan Kendra, Dehradun, commemorated its 25th anniversary with a grand cultural event, titled ‘Kaladarshanam’, last evening at the auditorium of the Department of Culture. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Doordarshan fraternity, loyal viewers, distinguished guests, and invited artists, who had all gathered to honour the milestone.
A formal welcome was extended to all guests and artists, including Padma Shri awardees Madhuri Barthwal, Basanti Bisht, Dr BKS Sanjay, Kalyan Singh Rawat ‘Maiti’, and Pritam Bhartwan on this occasion. The programme was officially inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the beginning of an evening steeped in tradition and artistic expression.
Saraswati Vandana was performed to invoke the blessings of the Goddess of wisdom and learning. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Suresh Kumar Meena, Cluster Head and Deputy Director General (Engineering) of Prasar Bharati, who reflected on the journey and accomplishments of Doordarshan Kendra, Dehradun, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to its viewers for their unwavering support over the years.
Theis was followed by a captivating sitar recital in Raag Desh by Pandit Robin Karmakar, a top-grade artist of All India Radio. This was followed by ghazal performances by Sanawwar Ali Khan and Shahrukh Khan, both B-High grade artists of All India Radio, whose renditions resonated deeply with the audience.
Showcasing the cultural diversity of Uttarakhand, Rahul Verma and his troupe performed a lively Jaunsari folk dance, followed by a spirited Garhwali folk dance by Yogambar Poli and his group. Manoj Samant and his fellow artists followed it up with a melodious Kumaoni folk song which highlighted the region’s musical heritage.
Later, all the participating artists were felicitated with certificates and mementoes in recognition of their contributions. The evening concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Anil Kumar Bharti, Head of Programmes and Assistant Director (Programmes), who acknowledged the presence and support of all attendees.
This cultural evening, organised by Doordarshan Kendra, Dehradun, was not merely a celebration of its silver jubilee but also a tribute to Uttarakhand’s folk traditions, music, and literature.
