Dehradun, 13 Aug: A tragic accident took place in the Nehru Colony area on Tuesday evening. A 50yearold teacher, Vijay Laxmi, died after being trapped under a collapsed wall. She had gone for an evening walk in a park in the Ashok Vihar area when the boundary wall of the nearby Jal Sansthan building suddenly fell on her.
Vijay Laxmi, a resident of New Friends Colony in Ajabpur Kalan, was a teacher at a government primary school. People present at the spot rushed to rescue her and took her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead.
Local residents said the Jal Sansthan wall was in poor condition and needed repairs, but the officials did not fix it. They have demanded strict action against the responsible officers.
Police from Nehru Colony station reached the spot and assured the family that action would be taken. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
This incident comes amid heavy rainfall in the region. In the past two days, several houses and shops have collapsed in Dehradun and Mussoorie due to rain.
The weather department has issued a heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand until 15 August, and schools in several districts of Garhwal and Kumaon have been closed today, 13 August.
