Dehradun, 16 Aug: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ceremoniously launched the Hindi weekly newspaper, Shining Samachar, yesterday, marking the occasion with a deeply personal reflection linked to the publication’s inaugural main story. Engaging in an extended interaction with the editorial team and their families, Dhami conveyed his wishes and expressed a ‘shining hope’ that the newspaper would effectively narrate Uttarakhand’s developmental journey to its readers.
The CM also lauded the quality and tone of each news item published in the newspaper’s inaugural edition and mentioned that he had read them attentively. He recounted the emotional backdrop of the first story featured in the newspaper, which includes a poignant photograph of him holding a child in his arms. The image, he explained, was captured during his recent visit to a relief camp in Harsil, amidst the Dharali disaster. During the visit, he noticed a child sitting quietly in a corner. Moved by the sight, he called the child over and lifted him into his arms. As fate would have it, it was the child’s birthday. The boy, originally from Maharashtra and likely affected by the disaster, clung to the Chief Minister and refused to leave his lap. Shining Samachar chose this moment as the subject of its first story, pairing it with the evocative photograph that captured the emotional depth of the encounter.
The Hindi weekly, based in Dehradun, was launched on the evening of the 79th Independence Day at the Chief Minister’s residence yesterday, when Dhami extended his best wishes for the publication to rise to the pinnacle of journalistic excellence, in keeping with its name. The newspaper has been printed at Garhwal Post Printing Press.
The launch of Shining Samachar was spearheaded by Anita Tiwari, editor of the widely followed online platform Shining Uttarakhand News. She noted that with this new venture, she aims to uphold the values of positive journalism and impartial reporting.
Senior journalist and editor of Garhwal Post, Satish Sharma was also present as a special guest on the occasion. During the event, Sharma reminded the Chief Minister that he had observed that the Independence Day editions of several newspapers were thick this year with a large number of articles and advertisements. He noted that this indicated that the print media was thriving even in the digital era when social media has also made a strong presence in media circles. Sharma noted that while social media platforms often publish news items without proper verification and sometimes on the basis of speculation, the mainstream print media sticks to traditional news gathering and reporting and still cares for credibility. He noted that the print media still has a great future ahead.
The event was graced by several prominent personalities, adding grandeur to the occasion. Among those present were Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister and Director General, Information, Banshidhar Tiwari, senior journalist Rajiv Nayan Bahuguna, President of Uttarakhand Brahmin Mahasabha Rajendra Parashar, senior BJP media panellist Laxmi Aggarwal, and Shining Samachar Executive Editor Ashish Tiwari.
