Seminar on “Today’s Youth & Social Media” held at Chaman Lal College, Landhaura

Roorkee, 8 Sep: A special lecture and seminar on the topic “Today’s Youth and Social Media” was organised by the Department of Political Science at Chaman Lal College, Landhaura (Haridwar).

Chairman of the college management committee Pt Ramkumar Sharma felicitated the Chief Guest, senior journalist and national president of the country’s largest union of journalists, National Union of Journalists, Ras Bihari, by presenting him a memento and a shawl. Principal of the college Dr Sushil Upadhyay presented the outline of the programme and introduced all the guests.

Chief Guest Ras Bihari in his address said that the youth should develop the habit of reading newspapers and watching news. He said that it is necessary to remain aware of the changes taking place in the country and the world. He also inspired the youth towards the correct and responsible use of social media.

He said that social media has become a big career building tool for the youth today, provided it is used in the right direction and with positive thoughts. He urged the students to distance themselves from wrong tendencies and make social media a platform for opportunities and development. Ras Bihari said that a true journalist is one who has humanity within.

The students asked the Ras Bihari many questions on current media. Ras Bihari also asked many questions to the students present and shared some important and interesting information in the field of journalism.

College Management Committee Secretary Pt Arun Harit and journalist Sunil Dutt Pandey were also present on this occasion.

While proposing the vote of thanks, Principal Dr Sushil Upadhyay said that social media is an important medium to connect the youth at the global level and provide them opportunities. Through this, the lifestyle of the youth and their role in society is constantly changing. He said that while social media has many positive possibilities, its misuse also poses serious challenges.

This special lecture was organised by the Department of Political Science. Department in-charge Dr Nishu Kumar conducted the programme. Assistant Professor Dr Dharmendra Kumar thanked the guests. Faculty members and students were present on this occasion.
