Dehradun, 22 Sep: Independent MLA from Uttarkashi district’s Yamunotri constituency, Sanjay Dobhal, today had an altercation with the police in Mussoorie. Dobhal later alleged that he was on his way from Uttarkashi to Dehradun for a protest but was stopped by the police in Mussoorie.
Mussoorie police, however, stated that a landslide had occurred near Galogi along the road to Dehradun, due to which it was closed. That is why all vehicles were being stopped in Mussoorie itself. This led to a heated argument between MLA Dobhal and his supporters and the police.
The MLA continuously insisted on going to Dehradun, but the police said that no one would be allowed to pass until the road reopened. After this, the MLA got agitated, and after about an hour of drama, the MLA left for Dehradun after the road was opened.
MLA Dobhal had announced a protest march to the Chief Minister’s residence in Dehradun on 22 September over the issues of neglect of the Yamunotri and Char Dham Yatras, as well as the neglect of disaster-affected areas, law and order, and corruption. For the same reason, MLA Dobhal had left for Dehradun with his supporters but was stopped by the police in Mussoorie, who said that a landslide had occurred near Galogi, due to which the road was closed. However, MLA Dobhal did not believe the police’s statement. He accused the government of deliberately stopping him.
MLA Dobhal said that a peaceful protest is his constitutional right in a democratic process. But the way Uttarakhand has been turned into a cantonment and efforts are being made to stop the protestors everywhere, it was clear that the government is scared. He also claimed that in case the same energy and resources had been used to fulfil the demands of the public and in development works, this situation would not have arisen today.
MLA Dobhal claimed that he was being stopped from reaching Dehradun under a well-planned conspiracy. He declared it the murder of democracy. He also alleged that the police had also stopped him at the Chunakhala barrier before Mussoorie.
