New Delhi, 17 Dec: The Cantonment Board, Lansdowne, has achieved a significant milestone by winning the Raksha Mantri Award for Excellence in Public Service 2025 in the Hospital Category (Category B) for the first time, recognising its outstanding contribution to improving healthcare services in a geographically challenging region.

The award was conferred during the Defence Estates Day 2025 celebrations held at Chanakya Auditorium, NIDEM, Raksha Sampada Bhawan, Delhi Cantonment, commemorating 100 years of dedicated service by the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) in defence land management and civic administration.

The ceremony was presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, whose address highlighted the Defence Estates Organisation as a shining example of transparency, efficiency, and accountability, aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The Raksha Mantri Award was presented by Defence Minister Singh to the Chief Executive Officer, Cantonment Board, Lansdowne, Mohd Saquib Alam, in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff, Defence Secretary, Chairman DRDO, Financial Advisor (Defence Services), and the Director General, Defence Estates.

The award recognises the remarkable improvements made at the Cantonment General Hospital, Lansdowne, which serves as the only indoor hospital within a wide radius. The hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services including general inpatient care, an active Ayurvedic Department, dental services, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, modern pathology and X-ray facilities, and community-focused initiatives such as preventive health outreach and senior citizen care. In addition, a minor Operation Theatre is currently under development to further enhance surgical services for citizens.

Strengthening access to specialised medical care, the hospital has also introduced telemedicine services in collaboration with Cantonment General Hospital, Delhi. Through this initiative, residents of Lansdowne now have access to specialist consultations in Cardiology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and other disciplines, significantly reducing the need for long-distance travel.

During the event, CEO Mohd Saquib Alam interacted with the Raksha Mantri and briefed him on the critical medical services being delivered by the Defence Estates Organisation across India through its 75 healthcare facilities. These services include advanced facilities such as dialysis, cath labs, gastroenterology services, CT scan facilities, and telemedicine platforms, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to citizen-centric healthcare delivery.

This prestigious recognition reflects the collective dedication and professionalism of the Cantonment Board Lansdowne’s administration and healthcare staff, reaffirming their commitment to delivering accessible, compassionate, and quality healthcare, in line with national priorities and the evolving healthcare needs of the community.
