ACEO reviews SIR in meeting with political parties

Dehradun, 22 Aug: On the direction of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam, a review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande here, today, with the representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the Special Intensive Revision programme and to obtain their suggestions.

Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande informed the political leaders that, out of the total 71 lakh voters included in the draft roll, notices have been issued to 24 lakh voters who were either un‑mapped or had discrepancies, and hearings on more than 15 lakh notices has already been completed while proceedings on the remaining are in progress. He emphasised that the SIR process is being conducted strictly in accordance with the prescribed regulations. To ensure transparency, nine senior administrative officers have been additionally deployed as supervising officers.

It may be recalled that some Opposition parties have been alleging deliberate deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls. Jogdande asserted before the representatives that the SIR is proceeding strictly according to the procedures laid by the Election Commission.

Among those present at the meeting were Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das along with representatives from various political parties including Anil Goyal and Rajkumar Purohit from the BJP, Manoj Rawat and Suleman Ansari from the Congress, Satyapal, Satendra, Jaspal and Satendra Chopra from the BSP, Shyam Babu Pandey from the Aam Aadmi Party and Anant Akash from the CPI (M).
