Dehradun, 30 Jul: Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi today reviewed the progress of various schemes being implemented by the Sericulture Department during a meeting with Sericulture Director Pradeep Kumar at his camp office. The Minister also issued necessary directions to the department officials.

During the meeting, the Minister directed officials to undertake a feasibility study for the establishment of a Silk Park at Haldwani in Nainital district of the Kumaon region to promote the sericulture industry in the state. He said that the proposed Silk Park would facilitate silk production, processing, and marketing while creating new employment opportunities at the local level, thereby directly benefiting sericulture farmers and cultivators across Uttarakhand.

The Minister also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to integrate sericulture farmers with modern technologies and innovative practices to maximise silk production. He emphasised the adoption of scientific methods, advanced technologies, and improved training programmes to enhance both the quality and productivity of silk, enabling Uttarakhand’s sericulture sector to achieve new milestones.

During the meeting, departmental officials informed the Minister that more than 200,000 mulberry saplings have already been planted across the state under the monsoon plantation campaign. They stated that the initiative is expected to play a significant role in strengthening silk production in Uttarakhand.
