BJP delegation led by MLA Vinod Chamoli accuses Cong of spreading rumours

Dehradun, 10 Jul: A delegation of senior BJP leaders today called on Chief Election Officer Dr BVR Purushottam and lodged a complaint against Congress for conspiring to illegally influence the Manglaur election process. The party delegation alleged that Congress workers from outside have tried to influence the voting by spreading rumours about the clashes that happened in Libbarheri. The delegation claimed that the Congress deliberately spread rumours that BJP workers had indulged in firing in Libbarheri village. The delegation claimed that by spreading the rumours, the Congress was conspiring to deliberately spoil the atmosphere and influence the voters.
Dharmpur MLA Vinod Chamoli along with Rajpur MLA Khajan Das, State BJP Treasurer Puneet Mittal, State Media In charge Manveer Chauhan, Co-Media In charge Rajendra Negi participated in the meeting with RRV Purushottam at the Chief Election Office located in the Secretariat. A memorandum was submitted in this respect in which the BJP alleged that Congress workers from completely outside the constituency were freely roaming across the Manglaur Assembly constituency and spreading rumours about firing in Libbarheri during the polling. The BJP further alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by the Congress and executed by it in order to spoil the atmosphere there by spreading false rumours among a particular class of voters. Their effort behind all this was to influence the election there. As per the BJP’s allegation, this has been done by the Congress as part of a well-planned strategy, which is a clear case of open violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The delegation, taking cognisance of this incident, has requested an impartial inquiry and necessary action at the assembly by-election booths where election violations have taken place.
It may be recalled that a Congress delegation led by senior party leader Mathura Dutt Joshi had also called on the Chief Election Officer and submitted a memorandum in which the Congress has alleged firing by the BJP workers. It has further alleged biased behaviour of the administration during the election in Manglaur.
