Dehradun, 26 Aug: Weeks after the BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt was nominated for a second term, the BJP in Uttarakhand is now poised to reconstitute its state executive team. Sources state that this development is likely to happen in about a week’s time. They claim that all organisational preparations and consultations to undertake the restructuring are almost complete, State party president Mahendra Bhatt’s recent return from Delhi after the adjournment of the Monsoon Session of Parliament has fuelled anticipation that the official declaration is imminent. The new team is expected to comprise 31 office-bearers, encompassing vice-presidents, general secretaries, and other pivotal roles essential for steering the party towards the upcoming assembly elections.

Manveer Chauhan, the party’s media in-charge, today affirmed that the full roster of 31 officials will be made public over the next few days. Extensive discussions regarding the selection and composition of the team under Bhatt’s leadership have already concluded, with only the formal announcement pending. The structure of the new executive is designed to strengthen the party’s machinery down to the booth level, in line with its strategic goals for forthcoming electoral contests.

As per the tentative arrangements, the new state leadership will include eight vice-presidents, eight state ministers, three general secretaries, one general secretary (organisation), one media in-charge, one treasurer, and one office secretary. The party will also designate heads for seven specialised wings, covering youth, farmers, women, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, and Scheduled Tribes. Sources indicated that, for the first time in the state, one post of state general secretary may be held by a woman this time, reflecting broader efforts towards inclusivity.

In addition to these appointments, reports from digital and print media suggest that some BJP MLAs seeking ministerial roles in Dhami Government may be accommodated in party positions to pacify them. The restructuring is happening in Uttarakhand at the same time when speculation of an early cabinet expansion is viral. The speculation has received a boost by the statements made by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as well as Party President Mahendra Bhatt. Sources also indicated that some of the existing executive members and office bearers may also be retained in the new team. They claim that the media team is also likely to remain largely unchanged.

In order to appease party leaders and workers, earlier this year, CM Dhami had appointed 38 party leaders to various councils and committees, bestowing ministerial status on several members in a move widely construed as an attempt to quell dissatisfaction among senior legislators and forestall contentious debates over cabinet expansion. More Lal Batti appointments are likely soon, particularly in the wake of the fact that Assembly elections are now less than 2 years away and already there is some amount of disappointment and party politics in play within the party.
