Dehradun, 12 Feb: A cabinet meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been scheduled for 14 February at the Secretariat. It is learnt that the cabinet will also mull on the dates for the Budget Session of the State Assembly and the venue – whether to hold it in Dehradun or in Gairsain, the summer capital of the state. Some other important issues are also likely to be discussed at the cabinet meeting.
Usually, the government holds one assembly session every year in Gairsain though, of late, these sessions have not been held in summer months. Most of the MLAs cutting across political affiliations, however, seem to be in favour of holding the Budget Session in Dehradun as it remains very cold in Gairsain.
Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya said that it is for the state government to decide whether the budget session will be held in Gairsain or Dehradun.
Sources said that the budget session may be held in the last week of February but there has been no formal discussion between the government and the opposition leaders with respect to the venue. The Opposition MLAs are, however, demanding that the assembly session should be long enough to allow the MLAs to not only ask questions related to all the departments but also raise issues pertaining to their constituencies in the House. It may be recalled that, in recent years, the assembly sessions have been rather short.
