CAG report on Smart City projects tabled in House, 11 bills introduced

Gairsain, 10 Mar: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report relating to the implementation of Smart City projects between 2017 and 2023 was tabled in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session at Bhararisain in the summer capital Gairsain here today.

The audit report, which examines the progress and functioning of Smart City initiatives in the state during the six-year period from 2017 to 2023 under the Smart City Project sponsored by the Centre, was formally laid on the table of the House, enabling the members to examine its findings and observations concerning the implementation of urban development projects.

Along with the CAG report, the state government also introduced a series of legislative proposals in the Assembly. A total of eleven Bills were placed before the House for consideration as part of the government’s legislative agenda during the session.

Among the Bills introduced in the House today was the Uttarakhand Prisons and Correctional Services (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to bring changes in provisions relating to the administration and functioning of prisons and correctional services in the state. The Uttarakhand Jan Vishwas Provisions (Amendment) Bill was also tabled in the House with the objective of amending certain existing provisions in the law.

The government further introduced the Uttarakhand Shops & Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, which deals with regulations concerning employment conditions and service provisions in commercial establishments. Another legislative proposal presented before the House was the Uttarakhand Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill aimed at making necessary amendments in the state GST framework.

The Assembly also witnessed introduction of the Uttarakhand Uttar Pradesh Public Services (Reservation for Physically Handicapped, Dependants of Freedom Fighters and Ex-Servicemen) Amendment Bill, which pertains to reservation provisions in public services for specified categories including persons with disabilities, dependants of freedom fighters and ex-servicemen.

In addition, the Uttarakhand Language Institute (Amendment) Bill was placed before the House to bring about amendments relating to the functioning and structure of the state’s language institute. The government also introduced the Uttarakhand Devbhoomi Parivar Bill, which relates to matters concerning the proposed Devbhoomi Parivar initiative in the state.

The Uttarakhand Minorities Commission (Amendment) Bill was another important legislative proposal introduced in the Assembly, aiming to amend the provisions governing the functioning of the state minorities’ commission. The government also tabled the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand (Amendment) Bill in the House, proposing amendments to the legislation relating to the Uniform Civil Code framework in the state.

Apart from these, the Uttarakhand Private Universities (Amendment) Bill was introduced with the objective of revising certain provisions related to the regulation and functioning of private universities in the state. The Uttarakhand Public Gambling Prevention Bill was also presented in the Assembly, seeking to strengthen legal provisions aimed at preventing and regulating gambling activities.
