Dehradun, 17 Jan: Specialists at Graphic Era Hospital successfully treated liver cancer by injecting medicine into the blood vessels.

Cirrhosis was detected in a 63-year-old female patient at Graphic Era Hospital due to hepatitis C infection. After evaluation, multiple liver cancer nodules were found in her liver. A team of specialists at Graphic Era Hospital successfully treated liver cancer with the help of Trans-Arterial Chemo Embolization (TACE) method.

The team included liver disease Specialist Dr Chandan Kumar Baranwal and Interventional Radiologist Dr Dinesh Kushwaha.

Dr Baranwal said that in Trans-Arterial Chemo Embolization, the chemotherapeutic drug is injected directly into blood vessels supplying blood to the cancer nodules. This leads to death of liver cancer nodules within a few days. This procedure is not listed under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Special permission was taken by the hospital to carry out this procedure. The patient is recovering fast after the procedure.

He said that Hepetocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a type of common disease. It is found in around 75% of the total liver cancer cases. Chronic liver disease, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, Fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease are some of the risk factors of HCC. It can be treated with local regional therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
