Dehradun, 17 Dec: The Union Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1,480 crores for disaster management in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today expressed his gratitude to the Central Government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for this significant financial aid.
Commenting on this development, Dhami observed that Uttarakhand is a disaster-sensitive state and this substantial amount will greatly aid in mitigating the impact of disasters, along with enhancing disaster relief and rescue operations. It may be recalled that the Centre has approved the World Bank-assisted project, “Uttarakhand Disaster Preparedness and Resilient Project (U-Prepare),” worth Rs 1,480 crores. The project aims to strengthen disaster management in Uttarakhand and reduce response times.
Under this project, some of the projects to be undertaken include construction of 45 bridges; implementation of 8 road safety measures; establishment of 10 disaster shelters; construction/strengthening of 19 fire stations; construction of training centres for the State Disaster Response Force and also taking forest fire control measures under the Forest Department/
It may be pertinent to remind here that the project is a five-year initiative, and the loan agreement for the same was signed on 16 December 2024 between the Central Government, Uttarakhand Government, and the World Bank. This project will play a crucial role in bolstering Uttarakhand’s disaster management infrastructure and improving resilience against future disasters.
