Dehradun, 24 Jul: The Central Government has informed the Parliament that it has put in place a comprehensive mechanism to regularly review the progress of all ongoing National High-Speed Corridor and Greenfield Expressway projects across the country, while also introducing a series of administrative and technological reforms to expedite the completion of delayed highway projects.
The information was provided by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in a written reply to an Unstarred Question raised by BJP National Co-Treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal regarding the progress of National High-Speed Corridors and Greenfield Expressway projects.
Bansal had sought to know whether the Government has reviewed the progress of National High-Speed Corridor and Greenfield Expressway projects during 2026, the current state-wise status of ongoing and completed projects, the length allocated, under construction and completed so far, and whether any measures had been taken through revised implementation mechanisms or contractual reforms to accelerate delayed highway and expressway projects.
In his reply, Gadkari stated that the Government has established a structured framework for the regular review of all ongoing projects, including National High-Speed Corridors and Greenfield Expressways. The review mechanism involves all stakeholders at both the Central and State Government levels, including the respective State Governments, to monitor project implementation and resolve issues affecting progress.
The Minister also informed Bansal that a total of 10,389 km of National High-Speed Corridors has been sanctioned across the country. Of this, construction of 4,809 km has already been completed, while work on the remaining 5,580 km is currently in progress. He added that the detailed state-wise status of sanctioned, under-construction, completed and operational National High-Speed Corridor and Expressway projects has been provided in the annexure to the reply.
Gadkari further stated that the Government has undertaken several initiatives to accelerate the implementation of highway and expressway projects. These include streamlining and expediting land acquisition through the ‘Bhoomi Rashi’ portal and GIS-based land acquisition planning, upgrading the ‘Parivesh’ portal of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to facilitate quicker environmental and forest clearances, enabling online approval of General Arrangement Drawings (GADs) for Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) by the Railways, and strengthening institutional mechanisms for reviewing and resolving bottlenecks in ongoing projects in active coordination with State Governments and other stakeholders.
