Dehradun June 28: Chief Secretary, Dr SS Sandhu, reviewed the progress of different types of parking being constructed in the state at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The Chief Secretary directed the officers to speed up the parking construction activities.
The Chief Secretary said that due to being a tourism state and due to continuous increase in tourism activities, there has been a rapid jump in the number of tourists.  Due to this, the problem of parking has also increased in the hill tourist places of the state.
He said that according to the requirement, small and large number of parking should be made in tourist places.  He said that the most economical parking in the interest of the state is roadside parking, which can be prepared by cutting a new road 100-200 meters from the road or by widening the road slightly more.  If space is not available for this, then there is a need to focus on other types of parking.  The Chief Secretary instructed Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan to review the progress of parking construction works fortnightly.
Dr Sandhu further added that there should not be any negligence in the security arrangements while making the parking lots.  He said that there should not be any defects in the design at the entry and exit points of the parking lots, so that after the commencement of parking, those places do not become new bottlenecks. The Chief Secretary also instructed to make speedy efforts in the direction of tunnel parking.  He said that tunnel parking can solve the problem of traffic jams in hilly towns. He directed to speed up the construction of the state’s first tunnel parking being constructed at Kempty. The CS said that to speed up its construction, it would be funded from the state budget. He directed that special attention should be paid to safety, pedestrian facilities and design in tunnel parking. He added that after its success, this type of parking will be constructed in various tourist places of the state.
It was informed in the meeting that a total of 169 parking lots have been identified in category ‘A’ and ‘B’, out of which DPRs of 113 have been received by the government.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu and Secretary Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey along with officers of other related departments were present.
