Khatima, (Udham Singh Nagar), 16 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Khatima–Melaghat State Highway (State Highway No. 107).
The project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 20.897 crores, is aimed at strengthening regional infrastructure and enhancing border connectivity. The sanctioned works under this project will cover the reconstruction of an 11.50-kilometre stretch of road, the construction of a KC drainage system, implementation of road safety measures, installation of road signage, and strengthening of the carriageway using TBM and BC technology.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dhami emphasised that the road will not just prove to be a developmental axis for the Khatima region but also become a vital link facilitating connectivity on the India–Nepal border. He noted that the improved road infrastructure would ensure smoother traffic flow for Khatima and the adjoining rural areas, and at the same time, open new avenues for cross-border trade, tourism, and educational exchange.
The CM also claimed that alongside the roadworks, focused efforts would also be made to prevent soil erosion and upgrade the local drainage system in order to ensure the road’s longevity and safety. He observed that Khatima has emerged as an educational hub, attracting students from across the state and neighbouring border regions, further underscoring the importance of robust connectivity.
On the occasion, Dhami reiterated the State Government’s commitment to making every region of Uttarakhand accessible, resilient, and prosperous. He affirmed that each development project undertaken is a tangible stride towards enhancing the quality of life for citizens. The Khatima–Melaghat road project, he said, would serve as a landmark in this endeavour.
The CM further stated that the state government is actively pursuing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that ‘Connectivity is the backbone of development’. In alignment with this resolve, the state is witnessing rapid expansion and modernisation of its road network. He also directed officials to ensure that all roads across the state are made pothole-free.
On the occasion, the CM also extended warm greetings to the public for the upcoming Diwali and other festivals and called for collective responsibility in maintaining the state’s safety, harmony, and cleanliness during the festive season.
Among those present on the occasion included District Panchayat President Ajay Maurya, Municipal Council Chairman Ramesh Chandra Joshi, Farzana Begum, Anil Kapoor Dabbu and Shankar Koranga, former MLA Prem Singh Rana, amongst others.
