Dehradun, 20 Aug: Congress has appointed senior Congress spokesperson Pankhuri Pathak as the national media coordinator for Uttarakhand Assembly elections. Besides her, Prakash Meena, Arun Agrawal, Ritu Chaudhary and Aditya Garg have been given responsibilities as coordinators by the Congress High Command. This development is seen as part of the steps being initiated by the Congress towards strengthening its media and communication strategy in the run up to the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed that these appointees will work in close coordination with the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee to ensure smooth functioning of media-related activities.
According to the party, the coordinators will play a key role in conveying Congress policies, programmes, organisational activities and issues of public interest effectively to the media and to the people. Commenting on the appointments, State Congress spokesperson Dr Pratima Singh said that the arrangement has been made keeping in view the crucial role of media during elections. She added that the media coordinators will liaise with the state media committee and implement directions received from the AICC communication department, which will include organising press conferences and other media activities highlighting public issues and the alleged anti-people policies of the BJP.
Besides this, the Congress leaders have also indicated that media coordination will also be strengthened at the district level, with local coordinators tasked to engage with regional media and ensure that election-related programmes and party issues reach the public effectively. The party has also stated that a new media committee for the state will be formed soon. All the party spokespersons and members of the media team will follow the guidelines issued by the AICC, presenting the party’s policies and public concerns to the people in a structured manner.
By institutionalising media coordination, the party aims to counter the BJP’s narrative and project its own agenda more forcefully in the run-up to the elections.
