Dehradun, 22 Sep: The BJP today alleged that the Congress leaders are carrying a chargesheet containing allegations that had been proved against their own government in 2017. In a statement issued today, BJP state president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said the Congress had already been rejected by the people over issues such as mining, corruption and crime.
Bhatt also advised former chief minister Harish Rawat to give up self-serving politics and make a positive social contribution in the interest of the state and the country. He said Rawat should accept that nothing is greater than the nation. He added that, after the people, even several of Rawat’s followers within the Congress are no longer willing to accept him.
In a statement issued in response to questions from the media, Bhatt said the Congress has become completely confused over issues concerning public welfare. He said that, in view of the development and welfare initiatives being undertaken in the state under the double-engine government, the Opposition has been left with no genuine issue on which to level allegations against the BJP.
He said this is the reason Congress leaders are currently moving around with a chargesheet against the BJP. Bhatt claimed that all the allegations mentioned in the document had already been proved against Congress governments. Corruption, illegal mining, crime and recruitment scandals were among the allegations levelled against the Congress government in 2017. The result, he said, was that the people’s court found the party guilty in 2017 and again in 2022.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Bhatt said it appeared that the Congress party believes that the people have forgotten the “black deeds and unethical activities” of its government. That is why, he said, Congress leaders are now taking the chargesheet brought against their own government in 2017 to the people after merely changing its name.
Bhatt said it would be difficult for anyone to believe the Congress’s allegations regarding recruitment processes when people have witnessed a totally transparent, honest and organised recruitment of 37,000 candidates. He alleged that the Congress government had promoted the practice of securing jobs through recommendations and money, while also providing protection to examination-cheating mafias.
He questioned who would believe the Congress’s allegations of corruption when the Dhami government has sent even senior officials, including IAS and IFS officers involved in wrongdoing, behind bars. In contrast, he said, people had seen on television a chief minister of the Congress government allegedly distributing licences for looting of the state’s resources.
Bhatt said the allegations of criminalisation levelled by the Congress against the BJP could not stand when people had been forced to stage protests even to get cases registered concerning atrocities against innocent people during the Congress regime.
He said allegations that the BJP was anti-women were “blatant lies”, pointing to what he described as unprecedented measures taken by the government for women’s empowerment, including reservation for women and other initiatives aimed at strengthening their role in society.
Bhatt said Rawat can’t perhaps not be blamed entirely, as he is now facing the consequences of the factional political culture that he had introduced into the Congress. He suggested that, after losing acceptance among the people and within the Congress, Rawat should accept the reality and give up self-serving politics. Instead, he said, Rawat should contribute positively to the welfare of the state and the country.
