Dehradun, 14 Apr: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uttarakhand on Tuesday for the inauguration of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor was met with both fervent enthusiasm and also political opposition. While thousands of citizens lined the streets to welcome him during a 12-kilometre-long road show, Congress leaders staged a protest in Doiwala, raising slogans of “Go Back” against the Prime Minister’s tour.

According to reports, Congress workers and leaders were heading towards Jolly Grant Airport allegedly intending to submit a memorandum highlighting regional issues. District Congress President Mohit Uniyal and several leaders were present, but police stopped their convoy outside the Kotwali, preventing them from proceeding further. Entry to the airport was restricted in advance, which led to visible anger among the demonstrators. The police and administration maintained strict vigilance throughout, ensuring tight security arrangements.

Despite the protest, the atmosphere across Dehradun remained charged with excitement as the Prime Minister’s arrival was seen as a landmark occasion. Citizens gathered in large numbers from early morning, with youth, women and elderly alike waiting eagerly along the route. The road show, decorated attractively and secured with elaborate arrangements, became a spectacle of celebration. Local organisations, social groups and representatives welcomed the Prime Minister with floral showers and slogans at various points along the way.
