Dehradun 22 Apr: Congress leaders from the state today declared that thousands of Congress workers will gather for a massive Save Constitution Rally in Dehradun on 30 April. The rally aims to protest against the alleged anti-constitution stance and anti-people policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state. The decision to hold a statewide rally in Dehradun on 30 April was finalised during a high-level coordination committee meeting of the PCC, chaired by State Party President Karan Mahara and also attended by State In-charge Kumari Selja. The meeting was held on virtual basis using Zoom.

Senior Vice President, Organisation, SK Dhasmana shared details of the meeting with the media, which lasted for over two hours. During the meeting, Kumari Selja congratulated party leaders for the recent success of the siege of the ED office and state-wide demonstrations. She emphasised that unity among party leaders and successful execution of programmes would pave the way for Congress to regain power in the state in the 2027 assembly elections here. Selja also mentioned the challenges faced by democracy and the constitution, accusing the BJP of undermining constitutional institutions and using investigative agencies to suppress opposition voices.

CWC member Gurdeep Singh Sappal criticised the BJP and RSS for their alleged dissatisfaction with the Nyaya Path Sankalp resolution passed during the Congress convention in Ahmedabad. He accused the BJP government of filing ‘baseless charges’ against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other Congress leaders in the National Herald case to tarnish the party’s reputation. Sappal reiterated Congress’s commitment to protecting democracy and the constitution through nationwide Save Constitution rallies at various levels.

PCC Chief Karan Mahara announced that the rally in Dehradun would include participation of party workers from across Uttarakhand and members of civil society. Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya assured full cooperation from Congress MLAs, even in constituencies not represented by Congress. Former President and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh urged the party leaders and workers to contribute wholeheartedly to the rally’s success. Ganesh Godiyal, another former President, accused the BJP of attempting to sabotage opposition programmes and called for collective efforts to ensure the rally’s success.

Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party Bhuwan Kapri proposed extending the Save Constitution Rally to Haldwani after its conclusion in Dehradun. In the meeting, prominent leaders, including Harak Singh Rawat, Virendra Rawat, Jot Singh Gunsola, Mamta Rakesh, Vikram Singh Negi, Ravi Bahadur, Ranjit Rawat, Jyoti Rautela, Sumit Bhullar, Vikas Negi, Hema Purohit, and Madan Lal, attended the meeting. MLA Tilakraj Behad participated virtually via Zoom.
