Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 19 Dec: A nine day cooperative trade fair is being held at Rangers’ College Grounds here from tomorrow till 28 December. According to the district administration, the fair will remain open to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is centred on the theme “Urban-Rural Unity through Cooperatives”. Preparations at Rangers’ Ground have been completed for the mega event.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal has constituted a district-level implementation committee chaired by the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to ensure the successful conduct of the fair. The committee has allocated specific responsibilities to various departments to conduct the event in an organised and effective manner.

CDO Abhinav Shah shared that, in commemoration of the United Nations declaring 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives, the Cooperative Department of the state government has resolved to organise theme-based cooperative fairs across all districts of the state. He added that the primary objectives of these fairs are to realise the spirit of cooperation at the local level, highlight the contribution of the Cooperative Department to the state’s economy, and provide a common platform for all cooperative-linked institutions.

The Cooperative Trade Fair will showcase attractive and specialised stalls displaying local products by various departments, cooperative societies, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). All the local cooperative societies, institutions, SHGs, farmers and the cultivators of the district have been invited to participate.

During the nine-day event, subject experts will conduct daily special sessions on significant topics including panel discussions, technical sessions, export consultancy, product packaging and branding, training programmes, youth entrepreneurship dialogues, start-ups and technical solutions, farmer seminars, White Revolution, digital literacy, e-commerce, financial inclusion, and women empowerment. Alongside these, food stalls, competitions, entertainment activities, swings, and colourful cultural performances showcasing the rich folk traditions of Uttarakhand will be presented as major attractions for visitors.

The district administration has also claimed that the cooperative trade fair is likely to provide a new direction to the cooperative movement and play a vital role in strengthening economic, social and cultural coordination between urban and rural areas.
