Rudrapur, 3 Dec: The Kichha Police had an encounter with a miscreant involved in cow smuggling in the Calcutta Chowki area of Kichha Kotwali, early this morning. The Police have claimed that, when challenged, the accused opened fire on them. During the retaliatory action, the cow-smuggler was shot in the leg and subsequently injured. The accused has been admitted to the Kichha Community Health Centre. It has been revealed that several cases of murder, cow smuggling, and cattle theft are registered against the accused in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
According to SSP Manikant Mishra, the accused, identified as Tasleem, has a criminal history and has previously been jailed for the sale of cow meat. He conducts cross border cow smuggling operations by taking advantage of the UP-Uttarakhand border. The interrogation of the accused is ongoing. SSP Manikant Mishra also reached the spot to gather details after receiving information regarding the encounter.
This morning, the Kichha Kotwali police received information that a person was engaged in cow smuggling in Qureshi Mohalla. The police team reached the spot and found a person with a bag tied to his bike. The Police Team became suspicious and chased him. The accused turned towards the Calcutta Chowki area on his bike. The police team then began a checking campaign. When the accused saw the checking ahead, he abandoned his bike and ran towards the forest. As the team pursued him, the accused opened fire on the police team. During the encounter, the accused was shot in the leg.
The police have allegedly recovered beef from the bag tied to his bike and a country-made pistol. The team is continuing the interrogation of the accused.
