Ramnagar, 20 Jul: A daily wage worker was seriously injured when a tiger attacked him during patrolling in the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The incident occurred in the Sarpduli range where 32‑year‑old Pitambar, a resident of Sundarkhal, was on patrol with three other staff members. He was suddenly confronted by the tiger and was mauled, sustaining deep claw wounds on his neck and other parts of the body. His colleagues, showing courage, struggled to free him from the animal’s grip and rushed him to the Ramdatt Joshi Government Combined Hospital in Ramnagar. Doctors administered primary treatment and later referred him to a higher centre for specialised care.
On receiving information, Corbett Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Rahul Mishra and Park Warden Binder Pal Singh visited the hospital, met the injured worker and his family, and assured assistance. Mishra said the employee’s condition is presently out of danger and the department is gathering details of the incident.
The attack has once again reminds of the growing human‑wildlife conflict in Uttarakhand, where cases of leopard, tiger, bear and wild boar assaults are now being reported frequently. Several people have been injured and some have lost their lives in recent years, underlining the urgent need for stronger safety measures and effective management of forest‑fringe interactions.
