Dehradun, 11 Jun: The DAV PG College Alumni Association, Dehradun, organised a grand alumni meet at Doon International School, here, on 10 June. Alumni from batches spanning 1962 onwards participated enthusiastically in the gathering.
Welcoming the members, DS Mann, President of the Alumni Association, highlighted the importance of maintaining strong bonds among former students and preserving the rich legacy of the institution.
Girish Baluni of the 1962 batch recalled the distinguished contribution of DAV PG College to society and mentioned several eminent alumni who have excelled in literature, academics, science, public service, and politics, including Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, Nityanand Swami, Hira Singh Bist, and Harbans Kapoor.
Sumod Kulshrestha emphasised the need for more frequent alumni interactions and suggested that the Association could play a constructive role in discussing ways to improve Dehradun’s environment and overall quality of life.
The reunion was marked by nostalgic reminiscences of college days, with members sharing fond and humorous memories. Avi Nanda entertained the gathering with a soulful rendition of a traditional Heer, which was warmly appreciated by all present.
Recalling the pristine Dehradun of the 1950s, when many students used to bathe in the waters of the Bindal River, members expressed concern over the deterioration of the city’s natural environment. They urged the Government to undertake effective measures for the rejuvenation and restoration of the Bindal and Rispana rivers to their former glory.
The event witnessed participation from alumni residing not only in Dehradun but also from Delhi, Gujarat, and Germany, reflecting the enduring connection of former students with their alma mater.
The members expressed their gratitude to DS Mann, President of the Alumni Association, for successfully organising the reunion and providing an opportunity to renew old friendships and celebrate cherished memories.
