DEHRADUN, 19 Jun: The De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has started operating. Just a few De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centres are functioning in India as per the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The addicts are gifted a new life after freeing them from the addictions under the supervision of these de- addiction centres. This special de- addiction & rehabilitation centre of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital will be a boon not only to the patients of Uttarakhand but also of the nearby states. On Tuesday, the De- addiction & Rehabilitation Centre of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital was inaugurated jointly by Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr (Prof) PP Dhyani, Principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr Anil Kumar Mehta, Additional Medical Superintendent, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr VK Bihari and Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Dr Shobhit Garg. While addressing the gathering at the occasion, Principal Dr Anil Kumar Mehta said that Uttarakhand state’s first De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre has been established at the Hospital. This is the only centre in the state established strictly as per the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The centre has a ward of 15 beds (General & VIP Ward) and the team of specialist doctors is available around the clock. This centre is also unique in that, besides doctor’s treatment, it has facilities of yoga, musical therapy, play therapy and group therapy, also. The facility of long term treatment for rehabilitation is also available at the centre. While addressing the gathering, Dr VK Bihari said that various therapies had been included in the treatment at the De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre. Patients will also use yoga and meditation therapies under the supervision of specialist yoga trainers. The patients will be prepared for overall holistic health. They will be taught that their body, mind and senses can be controlled leading to increase in will power and self confidence. Eventually they will also develop an optimistic mindset. This will provide a unique impetus in joining the main stream of life. Expressing his views, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Dr Shobhit Garg said that no one could predict when smoking, liquor and other addictions, which are tried the first time just for fun, can become addictions. The earlier an addicted person is treated, the earlier the cure can take place. Those addicted to smoking, alcohol, opium, cocaine, smack, tobacco, whitener, nail polish remover, tablets of addiction can be treated at the de-addiction & rehabilitation centre. Present on the occasion were Vice Principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr Anil Kumar Dhawan, Dr Amit Varma, Dr Rajiv Azad, Dr Sumit Mehta, other faculty members, doctors, nursing, support staff and the general public.
