Dehradun, 2 Jan: Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth today handed over an accident insurance amount of Rs 1 crore to the dependants of the late Additional Sub Inspector (ASI) Kanta Thapa. The amount was disbursed under the Police Salary Package Scheme, courtesy of Punjab National Bank (PNB). Under this scheme, accident insurance of Rs 1 crore is provided to police personnel with salary accounts in participating banks. ASI Kanta Thapa, who was posted in Uttarkashi, had tragically lost her life in a road accident on Haridwar Bypass Road, Dehradun, on 20 July 2024, while performing Kanwar Mela duty.

Today, the DGP met the dependants of Kanta Thapa, her children, Karishka Mohan Thapa and Parichay Thapa, at the Police Headquarters. He enquired about their education, job, and housing needs, offering his condolences for their loss. On this occasion, Seth assured all possible assistance for the children’s education and future and instructed the Superintendent of Police, Uttarkashi, to expedite the settlement of financial matters and family pension for the dependants.

In the presence of Sachchidanand Dubey, General Manager of Punjab National Bank, and other officials, the DGP presented a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Karishka Mohan Thapa and Parichay Thapa under the Police Salary Package Scheme. Seth expressed gratitude to the senior officials of PNB for their support in implementing this scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP asserted that the Uttarakhand Police is committed not only to supporting personnel in the discharge of their duties but also to ensuring the welfare and safety of their families. He remarked that it is the moral duty of the department to provide respect, support, and every possible help to each of the police persons and their families.
