Dehradun, 10 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today launched the self-enumeration process for Census 2027 by completing his own digital entry as part of the census survey marking the formal beginning of the census exercise in Uttarakhand with an emphasis on transparency, accuracy and public participation.
The process was carried out in the presence of senior census officials, who briefed the CM on the digital system and its functioning. Dhami noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving towards a fully digital census for the first time, which would ensure greater efficiency and wider public participation.
The first phase of Census 2027, the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO), involves collection of data related to housing conditions, amenities and household details. This time, citizens have been given the option of self-enumeration through an online portal, enabling them to directly submit family information, thereby simplifying the process and reducing the scope for errors.
Directing officials to carry out the exercise in a time-bound and transparent manner, Dhami emphasised that the data collected would play a crucial role in policy formulation and development planning. He said the accuracy of such data is essential for effective governance.
Describing Census 2027 as a cornerstone of national development, Dhami appealed to the people to actively participate by completing their self-enumeration and contributing to the success of the exercise. He urged citizens to provide complete and accurate information, noting that it would help in designing better welfare schemes in the future.
He also assured that strict safeguards have been put in place to ensure the security of the data collected, which would be used solely for statistical purposes. Terming the initiative a significant step towards digital empowerment and participatory governance, he expressed confidence that Uttarakhand would effectively implement the digital census model.
His wife Geeta Dhami, Director of Census Operations Eva Ashish Srivastava and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
