CM holds review

By Arun Pratap Singh

Dehradun, 20 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had, some weeks ago, held a review meeting on the assembly constituencies along with the legislators. These assembly constituencies included those held by the Opposition leaders and independents, also. Continuing this trend, he again held a review meeting of 12 constituencies of Garhwal region, today. The constituencies which were reviewed today by the CM were Yamunotri, Badrinath, Pratap Nagar, Jwalapur, Bhagwanpur, Jhabreda, Piran Kaliyar, Manglaur, Laksar, Khanpur and Haridwar Rural. The legislators of these constituencies also participated in the meeting, which was held at the Secretariat.

Taking cognisance of the major problems of each assembly constituency, as pointed out by the legislators and the local officers, he directed the officials to take the complaints and issues raised by the MLAs seriously and ensure that they are resolved at the earliest. He also called upon the legislators to provide all cooperation to the officials in getting the problems resolved. United efforts are required for overall development of the state, he said.

Dhami also directed the District Magistrates to hold regular meetings with the legislators from time to time in the districts and hear their problems related to the constituencies and solve them.

The CM instructed the District Magistrates to also speed up the works of the Jal Jeevan Mission. He stressed that they ensure that people do not face shortage of drinking water during the summer season. To speed up development works and to solve regional problems, he said that the DMs should allocate work among the subordinate officers who would hold regular meetings to review the progress of the works in their respective areas. The DMs should from time to time pay surprise visits to various areas in the constituency to ensure that the progress is satisfactory and that the problems of the people and those pointed out by the legislators are resolved in order to speed up the work.  From the point of view of disaster management, complete arrangements for necessary equipment and human resources should be made at the tehsil level as well.

Dhami said that continuous efforts are being made by the state government to promote agriculture, horticulture, tourism and industry in the state. Continuous efforts are being made to strengthen health infrastructure, education and road connectivity in the state. Many public welfare schemes are being run to improve livelihood of the people. Every possible effort is being made to bring Uttarakhand in the category of leading states of the country.

After the meeting, speaking to the media persons, Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh said that the initiative taken by the CM by holding such review meetings and including the legislators from the Opposition is praiseworthy. He said that he had praised this initiative last time when such a meeting was held in respect of other constituencies. He, however, added that the legislators had informed him about various problems in their respective constituencies but it remains to be seen how early these problems are solved.

Mohammed Shehzad, BSP MLA from Laksar, also appreciated the move of the CM and said that this kind of review meeting is helpful in solving long standing problems related to the constituencies. However, it will have to be seen if this trend continues or not. Other MLAs who participated in the meeting included Anupama Rawat from Haridwar Rural, Mamta Rakesh, Furkan Ahmed from Piran Kaliyar, Rajendra Bhandari from Badrinath, Vikram Singh Bist from Pratap Nagar and Virendra Kumar from Jhabreda.
