CM pays tribute to martyrs on Police Smriti Diwas

Dehradun, 21 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyrs of the police and paramilitary forces by offering floral wreaths at the Shaheed Smarak on the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas at the Police Lines, here, today. On this occasion, he also honoured the families of the martyred police personnel.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the CM asserted that the responsibility of maintaining the internal security and law and order of the country lies with the police and paramilitary forces of the states. He reminded that, during the past one year, a total of 216 paramilitary forces and police officials in various states were martyred across India, including four brave sons of the Uttarakhand Police who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation. The National Police Memorial established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi symbolises the unparalleled dedication and sacrifice of the police forces in the country.

Dhami stressed that, in recent years, the police have faced many challenges and shown indomitable courage and valour in complex situations related to terrorism and Naxalism in various areas of the country, natural disasters, and law and order issues. He noted that Uttarakhand, with its geographical and strategic importance, is a sensitive and crucial state for the security of the nation. The role of the police in maintaining peace and security is even more critical in Uttarakhand.

The CM stated that the state police face numerous challenges, such as drug addiction, cybercrime, crime against women, traffic management, the Char Dham Yatra, disasters, landslides, and Kanwar Yatra management. He added that he has set a target to make Uttarakhand drug-free by 2025, with a three-tier anti-narcotics force formed under the Uttarakhand Police. This year, action against over 1,100 drug dealers resulted in the recovery of narcotics worth about Rs 23 crores.

Dhami added that, in view of the growing threat of cybercrime, there is serious need for the police to be vigilant and more technically efficient. To provide a safe environment for women in the state, a Quick Response Team (QRT) has been formed under the ‘Women Help Desk’ at every police station. He also claimed that more than 95 percent of crimes against children and women have been solved by the state police and action has been taken against more than 50 percent of the accused, for which the Uttarakhand Police deserves to be congratulated.
The CM shared that 380 houses have been constructed at a cost of more than Rs 150 crores to improve the residential conditions for police personnel. Construction work on administrative buildings for five police stations, two police posts, two fire stations, and three police lines is in progress at a cost of Rs 42 crore. To improve police response time, approval has been given for the purchase of 1,105 police vehicles.

Dhami also shared that, under the Police Salary Package, accident insurance ranging from Rs 75 lakhs to Rs 1 crore is being provided to police personnel, with an amount of over Rs 15 crores already given to the families of deceased police personnel. In the field of disaster and relief, the government has approved the creation of 162 posts by sanctioning a company of the SDRF. Additionally, 327 posts have been approved for the functioning of six police stations and 21 police posts, while 11 new posts have been created under the PPS framework. Recruitment will soon begin for 222 sub-inspector posts while the recruitment process for 2,000 constables is also underway. For promoting talented sportspersons in the state, recruitments will also be made in the police department under the skilled sportsperson quota as part of the Uttarakhand Sports Policy.
On this occasion, former CM and former Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, District Panchayat President Madhu Chauhan, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Munna Singh Chauhan and Savita Kapoor, and Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, DGP Abhinav Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, and other senior police officers were also present.
