DEHRADUN, 3 Jan: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon hold talks with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to champion key national highway proposals aimed at improving road connectivity across Uttarakhand. In this regard, Dhami held a meeting with Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta at the CM’s official residence here on Saturday for in-depth discussions to prepare for the upcoming engagement.
Dhami disclosed that discussions are expected during meeting with Gadkari regarding the proposals for the Rishikesh Bypass, Almora-Danya-Panar-Ghat road, Jyolikot-Khairna-Garsain-Karnaprayag road, and Almora-Bageshwar-Kanda-Udiyari Bend road, along with other vital national highway issues for the state.
The CM also stated that implementing these projects will fortify Uttarakhand’s road infrastructure, streamline traffic management, and better link remote hill areas with the mainland. He highlighted how enhanced connectivity will invigorate the Char Dham Yatra, boost tourism, commerce and the local economy. Tamta voiced full support for the initiatives and affirmed the Central Government’s ongoing commitment to expanding road networks in the state.
Among the major proposals, expected to be discussed during Dhami-Gadkari meet, the Rishikesh Bypass entails building a 12.67 km four-lane stretch under National Highway-07 from Teenpani via Yoganagari to Kharasrot at an estimated Rs 1161.27 crore. This encompasses a 4.876 km elevated road for the Teen Hathi Corridor, a 200-metre bridge over the Chandrabhaga River, and a 76-metre Road Over Bridge at the railway portal. Separately, a 76-metre Road Over Bridge at Shyampur railway crossing, costing Rs 318 crore, will smooth traffic from Nepali Farm to Rishikesh Natraj Chowk.
The Almora-Danya-Panar-Ghat road proposal seeks two-lane widening of a 76 km section on National Highway-309B for Rs 988 crore. For the Jyolikot-Khairna-Garsain-Karnaprayag route, alignment work covers 235 km two-lane widening under National Highway-109. The Almora-Bageshwar-Kanda-Udiyari Band road advances under National Highway-309A through packages 1, 2, and 5, spanning 84.04 km at Rs 1001.99 crore, with the Government of India already approving forest land transfer for the Kanda-Bageshwar segment in Package-02.
