DEHRADUN, 11 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday addressed students at the DAV PG College, here during the Students’ Union’s annual ceremony. He emphasised the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation’s destiny. He described that youth with energy, determination and innovative thinking are steering India’s development and they were not just the future but also the present of this country .
Stressing on the importance of student politics, Dhami asserted that it serves as a vital platform for nurturing leadership, organisational skills and social responsibility. He noted that associations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) instil values of national service, character building and social awareness. He added that ABVP members contribute significantly from educational institutions to the nation’s borders. Quoting the ideals of social reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati, he reminded students that education is not merely about acquiring degrees but about building character and contributing to nation building.
Dhami also underlined that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several youth-centric initiatives such as ‘Make in India’, Digital India, Startup India and Skill India have empowered young people towards self-reliance. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to positioning Uttarakhand at the forefront of education and innovation. He claimed that under the new education policy, higher institutions are being encouraged to adopt modern courses like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, while projects such as Science City and Astro Park are being developed to promote scientific research.
The CM also said that infrastructure in the higher education is being strengthened in Uttarakhand with the establishment of nine new colleges, construction of 20 model colleges, women’s hostels, IT labs and examination halls. He added that recruitment drives are also underway to address the shortage of teachers in institutions. He added that a stringent anti-cheating law has been enforced in the state to safeguard students’ interests, yielding positive outcomes. Over the past four years, more than 30,000 youth have secured government employment.
On the occasion, Dhami announced the construction of two additional floors (first and second) on the roof of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Academic Block at DAV PG College.
Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, Ram Singh Kaira, MLA Umesh Kumar, Principal of DAV PG College Prof Kaushal Kumar, Students’ Union President Rishabh Malhotra, General Secretary Karan Negi and other public representatives were among those present at the ceremony.
