Dehradun, 10 May: BJP today claimed that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had gone to Kedarnath on the occasion of the opening of the portals there not as a VVIP but as the Chief Sewak. By participating in the opening of the portals, he did not do anything objectionable, claimed the BJP.  BJP State Media In charge, Manveer Chauhan was reacting to the media persons’ queries regarding the objection to CM Dhami’s presence in Kedarnath on the opening day.

It may be recalled that the Congress has objected to the CM’s presence in Kedarnath today in view of his own appeal issued that VVIPS should avoid going to Char Dham temples during the first 15 days of the Yatra.

Responding to the Congress President’s sarcasm regarding VIP darshan in the first 15 days, Chauhan claimed that the Chief Minister considers himself as the Chief Sewak of the state and he went there as the head of the state, not as a VVIP. The attempt of Congress to associate the CM’s approachable and friendly nature and his tendency to lead from the front should not be termed as an indication of VVIP culture. Calling this as ridiculous, Chauhan claimed that Char Dham is the backbone of the economy of the state. Devotees from all over the country and abroad come to Char Dham and that the CM had gone there to oversee the arrangements. He alleged that Congress is not able to digest the increasing crowd of devotees and the strengthening economy of the state.

The BJP leader said that ever since the all-weather road of Char Dham has been constructed, Kedarnath and the Badrinath Dhams are being reconstructed. The number of devotees there is creating new records every year. But the Congress has not been able to digest the improving heritage and economic progress of the state. Chauhan claimed that Congress has done little else apart from indulging in appeasement during the past 70 years and it can’t digest the presence of the executive head of the state in Kedarnath on the occasion of the opening of the portals. He added that the presence of the Chief Minister will create excitement and enthusiasm among the staff officers who are on Char Dham duty.

Chauhan reminded that BJP itself had written to all the states to refrain from VIP darshan for the first 15 days for easy and accessible darshan of Dhams. There was a positive message behind it. However, VIP culture prevailed in the previous Congress governments. During the BJP era, everything from basic facilities to connectivity and elaborate arrangements were made in the Dhams. Today the entire area is witnessing tourism activities and employment opportunities are continuously increasing. Kedarnath is on the world stage today and the same is the situation with other religious sites in the state.

Chauhan said that Congress has been doing politics on every development issue and it has nothing to do with development works. The level of thinking of those who are not able to digest the presence of the CM on the occasion of the opening of the doors of Kedarnath, the main pilgrimage site of the state and the country, can be understood by the way they have objected to his presence.
