DEHRADUN, 4 Jul: Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s five-year tenure and the BJP government’s nine-and-a-half years in office. In a statement issued on Saturday, Godiyal described the government and the governance as directionless and anti-people. He said no chief minister or government can secure a place in history through hollow statements and advertisements, as history is always written by solid work on the ground. Highlighting what he called the failures of the government, Godiyal alleged that the State has been pushed into a debt trap of over Rs 1 lakh crore, compared to Rs 40,000 crore when Congress left office in 2017. He accused the BJP of mismanagement and claimed that the government has failed to find new sources of revenue and has neglected basic sectors, with the budget reduced to mere statistical jugglery. Health, education, agriculture, roads and employment have been sidelined, while development remains confined to papers and hoardings.
Godiyal charged that having failed on the development front, Dhami has resorted to divisive politics ahead of the Assembly elections, distracting the public with sharp rhetoric and an agenda of hatred. He said the Cabinet is riddled with contradictions, with BJP’s core workers sidelined and leaders with a Congress background dominating, which reflects a leadership crisis within the party. He advised Dhami that to be remembered in history, far-reaching decisions in public interest are necessary, pointing out that people are deprived of basic facilities, youth are unemployed and the State is steeped in debt. He stressed that history is written only through concrete work for the people, not through electoral sloganeering.
The PCC Chief further alleged that the government has failed completely in ensuring women’s safety, citing the Ankita Bhandari murder case where the demand for a CBI probe has not been made public and no action has been taken despite the name of a VIP surfacing. Instead, he said, such people have been welcomed in Devbhoomi, which is an insult to the daughters of the hills. He added that the public is distressed by inflation, promises made in the manifesto remain unfulfilled, and people have now understood the reality of BJP. According to him, the electorate has already made up its mind and that the BJP’s is set to lose power in 2027. .
