District Information Officer Girija Shankar Joshi dies of cardiac arrest in Haldwani

DEHRADUN, 12 Sep: Girija Shankar Joshi, a native of Pithoragarh and currently in charge of the Media Centre at Haldwani, passed away on Saturday of cardiac arrest. He was 51 years old. Joshi was regarded as one of the most grounded and capable officers of the Information Department. Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have condoled his demise. As per the reports, Joshi was preparing to leave home on his motorcycle for a government scheme cheque distribution programme at around 1 pm on Saturday, when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and died instantly. His untimely death has left a deep void in the department sending  shock waves among the media fraternity of Haldwani and Kumaon, where he was widely known and respected. Joshi had recently laid the foundation for a new Media Centre in Haldwani along with a guest house for journalists, a vision that will remain his lasting contribution. Colleagues and acquaintances remembered him as a lively officer and a simple human being whose absence will be irreplaceable.

Condolences have poured in from across the State. Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh expressed grief over the sudden demise of District Information Officer Girija Shankar Joshi and prayed for peace to the departed soul while extending sympathies to the bereaved family. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also conveyed deep sorrow, praying for strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss. Director General Information Banshidhar Tiwari condoled the death of Joshi as a great loss to the department. The journalists from Kumaon who have known Joshi well have described him as someone who combined professional dedication with human values; leaving behind a legacy of service and vision.
