Dehradun, 4 Dec: District Magistrate Savin Bansal today held a meeting with officials from various departments at the Collectorate to address traffic problems at ISBT. The DM reprimanded the line departments for allowing unauthorised parking of vehicles at ISBT and directed immediate improvements. He emphasised that instead of making excuses, tangible progress should be visible on the ground concerning road improvement and drainage works.
When asked about the reasons for the heavy traffic jams at ISBT, officials explained that jams occur when vehicles pick up and drop passengers and are parked unauthorisedly. The DM directed SP Traffic and ARTO to seize the vehicles found parked outside ISBT and park them at Rangers Ground instead. He also instructed UTC officials to ensure vehicles use both the entry and exit gates, and pick up and drop passengers only inside the premises. Strict action will be taken against those who do otherwise. The DM dismissed all pretexts from the departments regarding delays in road widening and waterlogging repair works, ordering that road improvement work must start immediately and drainage work at ISBT should be completed before the next rains.
During the meeting, Bansal also watched a live telecast of the traffic system, operated through drone cameras, covering areas around Kargi Chowk, ISBT, and other locations. He observed vehicles picking up and dropping passengers on the road outside ISBT premises and noted the presence of unnecessary vehicles parked haphazardly. Consequently, he directed the ARTO to launch a campaign against such vehicles. The DM issued clear instructions to ensure vehicles stop only at designated stoppages, with the Transport Department and RTO taking action against those who pick up and drop passengers at will.
Several pertinent points were raised during the inspection of road improvement by Nodal Officer/Sub-District Magistrate Sadar, Chief Engineer PWD, and other officials, prompting a meeting to take necessary actions for improvement.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Bir Singh Budiyal, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, SP Traffic Mukesh Kumar, Chief Engineer PWD Jitendra Kumar Tripathi, Praveen Karwal, GM UTC Praveen Mahara, AGM KP Singh, Rajiv Gupta, NHI Dehradun Rohit Panwar, Naveen Kaushik from NH, and others were present at the meeting.
