Dehradun, 6 Sep: Newly appointed District Magistrate Savin Bansal today conducted a surprise inspection at the District Coronation Hospital, here. He reached the hospital sharp at 9:30 a.m. in his private vehicle and got his OPD slip made by standing in the queue like a common citizen. He observed the functioning of the OPD system. Finding certain deficiencies, including lack of adequate sanitation, he directed the hospital administration to remove these at the earliest.
While inspecting the OPD, he gathered information about the facilities available for the general public at the hospital. As soon as the hospital administration and the staff became aware of his presence in the hospital, senior officers, doctors and the other staff reached the hospital in a hurry at around 10 a.m.
Expressing displeasure over the lack of hygiene and adequate sanitation, Bansal directed the hospital administration to ensure proper cleanliness in the hospital as per the standards, and also ensure the availability of clean drinking water. He instructed the hospital management to ensure that the patients and attendants coming to the hospital do not face any kind of inconvenience.
Expressing strong displeasure on finding flaws, he directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) to ensure steps to remove these.
The DM also directed the CMS of the Hospital to increase the number of medicine counters at the hospital and to ensure display of signage of doctors deputed in the OPD. He asked that the facilities in the hospital be increased, and a proposal in this regard be submitted. He urged the hospital authorities to improve the sanitation in the hospital, particularly in the toilets.
The DM inspected various arrangements and facilities available in the hospital one by one and also spoke to the patients admitted in the wards about their wellbeing. He enquired about the medical facilities available to them. The DM inspected the NCCU and the General Ward, OT, Dengue Ward, ICU, Emergency, and spoke to the patients admitted in the wards and their attendants.
He enquired about the presence of doctors and medicines given to the patients at the time of admission and asked whether the doctors were prescribing medicines from outside. The admitted patients and their attendants claimed that no medicines were being prescribed from outside.
Bansal also enquired about their problems from the present staff.
During the OT inspection, he took information about the equipment in the operation theatre and gave instructions to submit a proposal for additional equipment. He instructed the CMO and the CMS to continuously monitor the hospital systems and make improvements in them. All the facilities in the hospital should be improved and kept in running condition he ordered. He gave instructions to maintain regular presence of personnel at the ASHA Helpline Desk.
During the inspection, ADM Jai Bharat Singh, Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjay Jain, Chief Medical Superintendent VS Chauhan, Assistant Director/District Information Officer BC Negi, PRO, Coronation, Pramod Panwar, etc., were among those present.
