Dehradun, 24 Jan: District Magistrate Sonika and Senior Superintendent of Police Dalip Singh Kunwar inspected the parade ground here today and reviewed the preparations for the Republic Day function to be held there. The District Magistrate directed the officials concerned to make arrangements keeping in view the rain forecast by the Meteorological Department. The District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police also observed the rehearsal of the army, paramilitary and the police parade at the Parade Ground. After this, the District Magistrate, while inspecting the construction and beautification works being conducted on the Parade Ground, instructed the officials concerned to complete them on war footing before the Republic Day. Earlier, in compliance with the instructions of the District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer Jharna Kamthan gave necessary guidelines to the concerned while taking stock of various preparations and arrangements along with the rehearsal of the parade and cultural programme to be organised at the Parade Ground.
Cultural programmes planned for this year include the Chholia dance (Almora), Jaunsar Bawar cultural folk dance and Harul dance by a team from Chakrata, Ranso dance by Rajeshwari Environment and Culture Committee, Uttarkashi (Naru Birola), and Mela dance (Garhwali dance) by Sangam Cultural Committee. The Chhapeli dance will also be presented by a team from Lohaghat in Champawat. There would also performances by the police and paramilitary women bands. On the occasion of Republic Day, there will be tableaux of 9 departments including the Horticulture, Education, Health, Child Development, Tourism, Rural Development, Forest and Animal Husbandry departments.
