Doon Police bust gang involved in multiple property frauds, 3 arrested

Dehradun, 27 Dec: In a major breakthrough, Dehradun Police have uncovered a gang involved in preparing fake property documents and illegally acquiring properties worth crores. The Rajpur Police today also arrested three members of the notorious Sher Khan gang from Saharanpur, UP, including their key operative, Vikas Sundriyal alias ‘Sonu Moochh’. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.

The Sher Khan gang is notorious for targeting prime properties lying vacant in Dehradun. The gang fabricates documents of the properties to fraudulently buy and sell properties. Several criminal cases are already registered against the main accused, Sher Khan, who is the mastermind of the gang and his close accomplice Vikas Sundriyal in, both, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh shared that raids are underway to apprehend other members of the gang. He stated that the Sher Khan gang has been involved in multiple property frauds by fabricating documents and taking illegal possession of properties in Dehradun. He claimed that investigations are ongoing, and strict action would be taken against the culprits.

It may be recalled that, on 21 November this year, Suman Devi, a resident of Kishanpur, had lodged a complaint with the Rajpur police station, stating that she had been requested by her NRI friend Ritu Mehta to take care of her property located in Kishanpur, comprising a bungalow and adjoining land. This property is valued at more than Rs 20 crores. However, Sher Khan and his associates forged documents for the property and attempted to take possession. Based on the complaint, an FIR was filed under sections 329(4)/62 BNS, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120(b) of the IPC.

In view of the gravity of the case, SSP Ajai Singh issued strict instructions to Rajpur Police to conduct an in-depth investigation. Key documents were obtained from the Registrar’s Office, Revenue Department, and the banks to verify the facts and actual ownership. The inquiry led to the conclusion regarding forged documents by the members of Sher Khan Gang in an attempt to take possession of the land. Acting on a tip-off today, the police arrested Vikas Sundriyal alias Sonu, Vinod Kumar alias KD, Mahesh Chauhan, and Pramod Giri over their involvement in the fraud.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the gang led by Sher Khan consists of ten to twelve members. The accused also admitted that they systematically targeted unoccupied properties, conducted recce of such unoccupied properties and then forged ownership documents to take illegal possession of the land. They also admitted that they have indulged in many similar frauds in the past too. The Police investigation have also uncovered several other properties in Dehradun city illegally occupied by the gang using similar methods. Efforts are underway to identify and return these properties to their rightful owners.

Speaking to media persons, SSP Ajai Singh claimed that the Doon Police are taking swift action to dismantle the entire network. He said that the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victims of these fraudulent activities. Investigations into all related cases are being expedited.
