Dehradun, 19 Aug: Doon police have arrested the Lalla Gang involved in major thefts in the city. Two members, including the gang leader, were caught, while a minor accomplice has been sent to a juvenile home.
Police said the gang was behind 2 big theft cases. In the first incident, they stole 15 costly mobile phones from a shop on Gandhi Road. In the second, they broke into a locked house in Premnagar and took away a Scooty, jewellery, and other valuables.
The arrested accused have been identified as Lallan (19) and Raju (22), both originally from Darbhanga in Bihar but living in Dehradun for some time. Police recovered 15 stolen mobile phones, jewellery worth around Rs 3 lakh, and a Scooty from them.
On 26th July, complainant Reena Chhetri, resident of Premnagar, submitted a written complaint at Police Station Premnagar that unknown thieves had stolen a Scooty, jewellery, and other valuable items from the locked house of her cousin.
On the basis of the complaint, case no. 129/25, Section 305 BNS was registered at Premnagar Police Station.
Acting on the orders of SSP Dehradun, police teams worked hard to trace the accused. Since there were no CCTV cameras near the crime scenes, police used manual policing and local informers to collect information. On the night of 18-19th August, the police received a tip-off and arrested the accused near Jamunwala Tirahe while they were planning another big crime.
Police said the gang was very clever. They never used mobile phones during crimes to avoid being traced. The minor accused was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and later sent to a juvenile home.
