Dehradun, 21 Aug: Dr Ashok Kumar Mishra ‘Kshitij’, serving in the Uttarakhand Secretariat, was honoured during the Independence Day celebrations for his outstanding performance in the Government of India’s ambitious Mission Karmayogi programme. He has secured 184 certificates of excellence so far. Under Mission Karmayogi, recognition was conferred on him by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan.

Dr Mishra is widely known to be not only a committed officer but also a poet, writer and singer whose creative pursuits have won admiration across the state. At an event under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat campaign in Lok Bhawan here, recently, he had captivated the audience, including Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Vice‑Chairperson Aparna Yadav and MLA Savita Kapoor, with his self‑composed song “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand meri jaan hai, meri veerbhumi swarg se mahan hai”. The Governor praised both the emotion and melody of his performance.

Despite the demands of official duties, Dr Mishra is also known to devote his time to social service. He teaches underprivileged children free of cost, guides poor youth in preparing for competitive examinations, trains women in self‑employment skills and motivates teachers towards innovative pedagogy. He has also contributed to campaigns on environmental awareness, Ganga pollution control, sanitation, women’s empowerment, water conservation and road safety. His NGO ‘Abhyuday Vatsalyam’ works nationally for the welfare of deprived communities, mothers and children, and has organised significant educational initiatives in Uttarakhand.

A prolific writer, Dr Mishra has published five poetry collections including ‘Main Chup Hoon’, ‘Antahin Chuppi’, ‘Unse Kehna Hai’, ‘Poonchh Kati Chhipkali’ and ‘Footpath Ka Aadmi’, the last of which became a bestseller. He is also associated with the Ganga Bachao campaign and has featured in the video album Maa Ganga Ki Pukar. His songs in Hindi, Bhojpuri and Pahadi languages have gained popularity on digital platforms, with numbers like ‘Chehra Gulab Sa’ and ‘Pahaada Tu Ni Chhod’ receiving wide appreciation.
