Dehradun, 10 Jun: Padma Shri awardee Prof Dr BKS Sanjay, President of AIIMS Guwahati, orthopaedic and spine surgeon, author, and road safety advocate, undertook a week-long North-East tour in the first week of June, engaging in multiple academic, environmental, and social initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura.

During his visit to Tripura, Dr Sanjay paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Tripura, N Indrasena Reddy. They held an in-depth discussion on healthcare, education, road safety, and public welfare. The dialogue also emphasised sustainable urbanisation, highlighting how unchecked and unplanned urban growth is increasingly impacting public health, environmental balance, and overall quality of life, thereby underscoring the need for responsible and human-centred urban development.

He also delivered a lecture at Tripura Medical College, Agartala, on road safety, appealing to future doctors to actively contribute to nation-building through their professional practice, ethical responsibility, and commitment to saving lives.

The visit commenced in Itanagar, where he attended the First Annual NCC Cadet Course as Chief Guest. Addressing cadets, he emphasised discipline, leadership, patriotism, and nation-building. Following his address, he also held a courtesy interaction with the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Prof CK Nayak, further discussing academic collaboration and youth development initiatives.

On World Environment Day, he delivered the keynote address at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar—National Institute of Technology Silchar—highlighting sustainable development, ecological balance, and the growing importance of mental health and workplace well-being in academic institutions.

He later inaugurated the annual function of Saraswati Vidya Niketan, Sribhumi, Assam, where he stressed value-based education, character building, and social responsibility among students.

The multi-state outreach reflects his continued commitment to public service beyond medicine—integrating road safety advocacy, environmental awareness, education reform, mental health sensitivity, and nation-building.
