Dehradun, 15 Jun: Dr Gaurav Luthra, Senior Eye Surgeon at Drishti Eye Institute, Dehradun, brought pride to Uttarakhand and India by representing the country at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) Annual Meeting 2026 held in Pattaya, Thailand.
During the international conference, Dr Luthra was felicitated by world renowned ophthalmologist Prof Graham Barrett, the inventor of the globally acclaimed Barrett IOL Suite, which is widely used by eye surgeons worldwide for cataract surgery planning.
Dr Luthra also had the honour of representing the Indian contingent during the inauguration ceremony of the conference. He shared the stage with leading figures in global ophthalmology, including Dr Kevin Miller, President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Dr Filomena Ribeiro, President of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), and presidents of various ophthalmological societies from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Recognised for his expertise and contributions to the field of ophthalmology, Dr Luthra was invited as a faculty speaker in several scientific sessions. He lectured on advanced eye care procedures, including Laser Cataract Surgery, Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), and SMILE vision correction surgery. He also participated in a masterclass on Phakic lenses where he spoke on the latest ICL Guru technology for perfecting results of ICL surgery for specs removal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Luthra stated that such international platforms provide valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn about the latest advancements in eye care, and bring world-class treatment techniques to patients in India.
Drishti Eye Institute has been at the forefront of bringing latest technologies to India and the region. Among others Drishti was the first in India to introduce ICL Guru AI-UBM for perfect ICL sizing making the surgery for specs removal safer and predictable. Also recently the Dream OCT, the most advanced Ultra Wide Field Swept Source OCT for retinal imaging and angiography was introduced at Drishti, among the first installations in North India.
