ViIKASNAGAR, (Dehradun), 28 feb: A tragic road accident has been reported from Chakrata region of Dehradun. In the Tyuni area, a vehicle met with an accident resulting in the death of its driver. The police have begun investigating the cause of the mishap.
According to police, the accident occurred on the Chakrata-Tyuni motor road near Kanda Band. On Saturday morning, forest Gujjar Yaseen informed Tyuni police station that a vehicle had fallen near Shiv Mandir Band below Kanda Band. Acting swiftly on the information, Tyuni SHO Ashwini Baluni, accompanied by a police force and equipped with rescue tools, rushed to the spot. The SDRF team was also alerted to reach the site.
On arrival, the SHO reported that vehicle number UK07 TD 8854 had veered off the road and fallen into a gorge about 200 metres deep. The rescue team descended into the gorge and discovered one person lying dead.
With the assistance of SDRF, the body was retrieved from the gorge. Enquiries with local residents revealed no other passengers were present at the time of the accident. The deceased was identified as Mahesh Thapa, aged 48, a resident of Tyuni.
Earlier, on February 16, another accident had occurred on the Tyuni-Atal motor road near Rishanu Dadu Khad, where a pickup vehicle had fallen into the Tons river. That vehicle was travelling from Rohdu towards Sahaspur. It was being driven by Sahil, aged 19, a resident of Sari village, Post Hatkoti Jubbal, Himachal Pradesh. His whereabouts remain unknown, and the SDRF continues its search operation.
