DEHRADUN, 24 June: Dr Sunil Shukla, Director General of the Indian Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDII) in Ahmedabad, held a formal meeting with Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. They discussed the importance of shifting local mindsets towards self-employment to boost entrepreneurship and accelerate state development. Dr Shukla highlighted the successes of the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana and its positive impact on fostering new student entrepreneurs in the region.
Dr Shukla also visited the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana project office at Doon University Campus, where he met with project staff and reviewed the implementation of both the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana and Project Rise. He was accompanied by Dr Amit Kumar Dwivedi, the Project Director.
The DG praised the collaboration with the Higher Education Department over the past year, which has resulted in over 100 students and youth starting their own enterprises after receiving training under the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana. He emphasized the goal of further promoting an entrepreneurial mindset among students and youth to explore economic opportunities and initiate new ventures. He also mentioned that the Migration Commission’s report indicates the search for better livelihoods as a primary cause for youth migration, and he believes that the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana can address this by encouraging self-employment.
Regarding the initiatives under the Devbhoomi Udyamita Yojana, Dr Shukla noted the establishment of 10 Centers of Excellence within higher educational institutions across the state. These centers will provide expert guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs, including those in remote mountainous areas too. The state plans to create 10 new Centers of Excellence every year to support entrepreneurial students and youth, thereby contributing to positive economic changes in Uttarakhand.
